Great skin doesn’t start the day or week of your wedding, it starts MONTHS before. Here are the best ways to ensure your wedding day skin preparation leads you to a flawless complexion both in person and in those all important wedding photographs.

These top tips will guide you to gorgeous wedding day skin:

Drink water

We all know the benefits of drinking enough water, but it is an especially important part of your skin care routine. Drinking plenty of water will flush out any toxins in your skin and will help to plump out the tissue making your skin brighter and smoother. This also diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Use good skin care products

It is imperative that you maintain a good skin care routine to ensure that your skin is in good shape for your big day. This begins with good quality skin care products that address your skin issues. Cleansers, toners, moisturizers, eye-creams and serums – there are many products that will benefit your skin. It is imperative to seek the advice of a professional beauty therapist when purchasing the right products for your skin. Your therapist will also explain how and when to use your products too.

Don’t forget your sunscreen

You may have a fantasy in your head of walking down the aisle with sun-kissed skin that highlights your white wedding gown, but keep in mind that exposure to the sun can cause damage to your skin. Not only does is cause premature wrinkles, sun exposure is also associated with age spots, blemishes and spider veins. If looking bronzed on your wedding day is important to you then you can always use some spray tan to give yourself some colour.

Get plenty of sleep

You should never underestimate the power of getting a good night’s sleep. When we sleep our bodies produce important proteins that are needed to help cells and tissue regenerate. This helps to give your skin a healthier appearance and will reduce the risk of blemishes. Making sure you sleep enough will also prevent those unsightly eye bags and dark circles.

Cleanse, tone and moisturise daily

It is important to maintain a regular skin care routine at all times, but especially in the months leading up to your wedding day. It is imperative to use your skincare products daily and especially at night time. Never go to bed with make-up on, and simply removing your make-up with a facial wipe isn’t enough. Most beauty therapists recommended cleansing, toning and moisturising twice daily – that means morning and night.

Wash your make-up brushes regularly

One of the worst sources of bacteria for your face is dirty make-up brushes. Clean them regularly with a make-up brush cleaner or soap to avoid spreading bacteria around your face. This will help you to reduce your risk of blemishes and pimples.

Wash your pillowcase regularly

If you don’t wash your pillowcase regularly it can accumulate a build up of bacteria, dust and other grime which can affect your skin. Make sure you was your pillowcase and bed sheets regularly to avoid any unnecessary breakouts caused by bacteria.

Avoid touching your face

Never be tempted to pop a pimple as you risk leaving a scar, or spreading the infection. Instead dab a small amount of benzoyl peroxide on the offending pimple to reduce the swelling and if the worst happens and you have a pimple on the big day then do not panic, that’s what concealer is for! Also, touching your face in general transmits germs from your hands and fingernails onto your skin which can give you an oily complexion and cause break outs.

Enjoy regular facials

If it is within your budget, it can be highly beneficial to seek an experienced beauty therapist to perform regular facials on your skin in the lead up to the wedding. A highly-trained skin therapist will address any issues your skin may have such as dehydration or acne, and will put together a treatment plan for you.

Diet and exercise

A healthy diet that includes antioxidant rich foods such as fruits and vegetables will increase collagen production and enhance your overall complexion. Exercise can help to get any toxins out of your body and can also regulate hormones that may cause break outs. A good diet and regular exercise are important ways to improve and maintain the appearance of your skin.
