As the previous weekend took its bend, social media was taken by storm of a Kenyan couple who spent UG Shs. 7,000 for their weeding. The wedding of 27 year old Wilson Wanjohi Mutura and 24 year old Anne Muhonja has been trending on social media because it cost them only 200 Kenyan Shillings
The couple spent only $1 (Kshs 100) on two wedding rings each costing 50 Kenyan shillings and then Kshs 100 for the wedding dinner.
Anne didn’t wear a wedding gown and neither did Wilson put on a suit but simply clad in their casual wear.
According to the BBC, “Wilson and Ann Mutura postponed their wedding twice in 2016 because they were unable to raise the $300 (£240) fee but finally decided to get married this year with the minimum of expense.”
Other expenses surrounding the pair's nuptials – including the licence fee – were instead borne by their church. The romantic story of Wilson and his bride Ann, seems to have captured the attention of not just the Kenyans but also the world at large.
The couple has since won themselves an all paid expense honeymoon to Mombasa (Diani) where they will spend five days at an undisclosed four-star hotel. The trip that kicked off yesterday was sponsored by a local tour and travel company called Bonfire Adventures.
