Isn?t amazing how everything evolves! The gomesi; the traditional wedding attire that is commonly don by Ugandan ladies has evolved. Here is a list of elements that show how the gomesi has evolved:
Fabric
Before the evolution kicked off about five or so years back, the fabric that was used to tailor bridal gomesi was mainly simple, commonly of royal silk, or light satin, that came with prints of any kind.
Lately though the brides often opt for fabric that has elaborate detailing like embroidery, glitz, beads, muted hues, and layering. This fabric is commonly sourced from Asia, and it is often used in the making of Indian sarees in India.
Tailoring
Recent brides have tailored their gomesi into unusual silhouettes especially at the shoulders, and the sashes. The bishop sleeves that make up the gomesi are usually kept at elbow length compared to before when they were kept midi length just above the elbow.
The sashes that most brides are donning lately have embroidery detail, and they are midi-length. The traditional sashes were ankle length or floor length.
Styling
The entire ensemble of the gomesi is very fashion forward, and trendy. Stylists have explored the colour blocking element. When it comes to choosing colours, they have kept it muted.
Most of the colours brides are wearing lately are neutral colours such as the blacks, white, greys, lavender and more.
Accessories such as head beads, silver and gold ton ornaments, hats and veils have been added to the gomesi look, and has transformed the entire traditional wedding look into glamourous ensembles.
With that said and done, bride to be it is all left to you now. Choose what it will be for you, will you follow the trend, or will you create a new one?
