What is the story behind Canaan Gents?
Canaan Gents began 30th November, 2011 with Samuel Lubwama, Victor Tusiimire, Kevin Kiggundu, Aijuka Rodney and Nsereko Derrick while at Uganda Christian University, Mukono. The five confidently sparked off this vision while fully attending to their lectures at the university. One of their most memorable performances was at a talent show where they performed voluntarily. Here, the profound feedback they received from the audience advanced their self-assurance to the inaugurated a cappella music journey. After close to a year of insightful ministry, 4 of the Gents; Victor Tusiimire, Kevin Kiggundu, Aijuka Rodney and Nsereko Derrick were regrettably unable to continue with the group goings-on as the University schedule stiffened. In 2012, Samuel Lubwama, the vision bearer and founder of the group sustained his passion and commitment to the group, restructuring and teaming up with Mark Tugume and Peter Nyombi. The two were also students at Uganda Christian University. Already known to each other, Tugume and Nyombi had always wanted to sing with a group. Samuel’s proposal for the two joining The Canaan Gents was an answered prayer. From here, the 3 started doing their rehearsals at Watoto church down town. In 2012, Alvin Tashobya, a bass singer come on board. He did not stay for long (2 years) as he had to go to pursue further studies in Mbarara, a town in the Western Region of Uganda. In 2015, the group started looking for a beat boxer for close to a year. This is how Charles Ssentongo joined the Canaan Gents. They had initially been part of a band having completed his studies at Makerere University. Beat boxing is a talent Charles had from Child hood, however, he didn’t know it was one much sought after and appreciated until joining the group. In the same year, Isaac Kawuki also came on board. 2016 saw the departure of Mark Tugume, who had to pursue further studies in whales, UK. The team was hence joined by Samuel Baker Bitwire and recent recruit (2016) Geoffrey Amanyire. Geoffrey was introduced to the group by Samuel. He is an engineer by profession and student of Watoto Church's vocal classes. The group by 2016 had 5 songs; Sing, Azaalidwa, Nkwagala, He Lives and Live your ways officially released in that order. Their official music writers are; Catherine Mirembe, Samuel Lubwama and Charles Ssentongo. They have taken a step towards professionalism by taking on a lawyer/Manager who handles all contracts and official affairs related to the brand. The Canaan Gents also believe in a sound dress code which has led them to clad in suits not only providing quality and a unique form of music but living true to the long known adage that the apparel proclaims the man. Their name “Canaan” occurs commonly in the Hebrew bible; the land promised to the Israelites. A land flowing with milk and honey, according to Exodus 3:8.

CANAAN GENTS
CANAAN GENTS is like a baby to me that I have to feed before I eat. She's a wife I have to love selflessly, a Husband I have to submit to, a Father I'm required to obey. A mother who deserves my love and respect....and a friend I'd willingly lay down my life for. #GodisTheReason #AllForHim

I developed a love for music
I developed a love for music and especially gospel because of the CANAAN GENTS, it's through their music and talent that some of us, Lydia in particular that I was able to renew my life in Christ since I was born again and had backslid. To my surprise, they were young and not ashamed of the gospel so I believed that the same God who has sorted out these great men will do the same to me.Most of us who are out there and have not known the greater man in us just believe that one day, it's gonna be your turn. CANAAN GENTS thanks a lot for transforming my life through your music. YOUR AN INSPIRATIONAL FIGURE TO MANY. JAH BLESS
