Contesting couple for Capital FM’s The Big Wedding Season 8, Weraga Steven and Kisakye Phoebe revealed that their romance began about nine years ago at a campus library where they met and has since flourished into a family of four, built on faith and resilience.
While making their appearance on live radio, Phoebe told the listeners that; “I gave him my number and I thought maybe we would be friends.”
Asked what drew him to her, Steven noted that “don’t guys see it!! It’s her smile. She has the most beautiful smile, so I was drawn away by her beautiful smile. I felt that I needed to talk to her.”
Pressed on if he was nervous while making the approach, the aspiring groom-to-be said; “actually, I left my laptop and books in the library and then I just walked out. I just came back for them after I got the number. That’s how nervous I was. I couldn’t think of any other thing apart from talking to her.”
Speaking about the challenges of a marriage, the bride-to-be in waiting disclosed their first conundrum came in 2019 when she found out that she was expecting.
“In 2019 I conceived our first born and I was scared to death because my mum is a pastor. I was scared having conceived out of wedlock and he was equally scared because he was broke, still fresh from campus,” Phoebe recounted.
“I spoke to my sister who advised me to speak to my mum but eventually, although our parents were so bitter, we prayed to God and we got some money and did the kukyala,” she added.
However, after holding their pre-visit, Covid-19 kicked in and they ended up using all their savings so they couldn’t hold the introduction ceremony. Nonetheless, they managed to overcome their financial challenges and celebrating their traditional union on 25th May this year, nearly three months after their second born had been born.
The couple is blessed with two children, a boy (Jayden) and a girl (Jenah) and are looking to make their dream come if they can win The Big Wedding Season 8 that will be held on 22nd November 2024.
