We may have had to wait long enough for the Busoga Royal Wedding but at least it was all worth it. The last time we’d had an experience of a royal wedding was back in May 2018 when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot.
Well, here it was once again. Another treat of culture and norms, coupled with all the pomp and glamour that come with a royal wedding as His Royal Highness King Nadiope IV, the Kyabazinga of Busoga wedded Her Royal Highness Inhebantu Joviah Mutesi.
Saturday 18th November was quite a momentous day that will forever be inked in the history of not just the royals and Busoga kingdom but also Uganda as it’s traditional history.
The royals were wedded by Archbishop Steven Kazimba Mugalu of the Church of Uganda at Christ’s Cathedral in Bugembe. After exchanging their vows, the King and Queen boarded a carriage as they waved to the crowds, making their way to the reception that was hosted at Igenge Palace.
The royal wedding saw big shorts from the royal entourages from as far as Eswatini – representing King Mswati III, Her Royal Highness Sylvia Nabagereka Nagginda of Bunganda, Queen Mother of Tooro Kingdom – Best Kemigisa and Bunyoro-Kitara Kingdom Omugo Margaret Karunga among others.
Several dignitaries from the central and local government, religious and social spectrum were all in attendance. The Vice president Hon. Jesca Alupo, the Deputy Speak Thomas Tayebwa, Deputy Prime Minister and former Speaker RT. Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kaddaga, first son Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba and his wife Charlotte, who gifted the newly weds with 10 heads of cattle all graced the function.
Speaking at their reception hosted at Igenge Palace, the Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV said: “I want to thank my mother Rebecca Kadaga for all that she has done including the mentorship classes she has offered me to be the person that I am today.”
And on the other hand, Inhebantu Jovia Mutesi promised to make the King the happiest man alive, noting: “I want to thank you (Kyabazinga of Busoga, William Gabula Nadiope IV) for loving me and fulfilling all that you promised. I am grateful. I promise not to disappoint you. I will make you the happiest man in the world.”
